Tapping Out Issues

EFT. Emotional Freedom Technique. Tapping? Just tapping and using a setup phrase chosen to release an emotional issue? That’s all there is to it? It seems too straightforward to carry any lasting effect. But it does last. There are those who think the very idea is ridiculous, without even considering the lasting effective part. How can tapping on your hand, head, face, and collar bone make you not be afraid of flying?

Actually, I do appreciate why this concept seems ludicrous. But it isn’t. It really works. Against all logic, no matter how strange it seems, it made it possible for me to become a speaker. My fear of public speaking, that quivering, hollow feeling that was accompanied by a difficulty to swallow disappeared in about twenty minutes. Maybe less, I don’t remember exactly. I am an EFT facilitator/practitioner, and was asked to give a talk on EFT to a group. My first thought was, “I can’t talk in front of a room full of strangers”. This was followed by the realization that I could tap on it and take it from there. Tap, tap, tap. I was able to speak in front of a group.

When we carry an emotional issue around with us for a long time, like the fear of public speaking, the fear of flying, etc, we become related to it in some odd way. As we live with them, these emotional states become a part of us. We all have events in our lives that have a hold over us in one way or another. They may have occurred many years ago, but when we think about them today, they still have the power to make us feel uncomfortable in some way. Anger, fear, hate, embarrassed, sad, hurt, afraid. These events with their resulting emotional caboose, caused a disruption in our energy system, which in turn will cause us to remember that occasion uncomfortably for years. Talk therapy can make us understand why we feel that way, teach us how best to cope with the remaining debris, but we may still have some residual strings attached to the event that leave us discontent in some way. We even try to make them friendly through coping skills, so they become more endurable. But somehow we’re still left with the nagging remnants of how we, they or the event has impacted our life. EFT removes those lingering strings, releases the event, eliminates the remaining charge. Dissolves the disruption to our energy system. We remember the event, but the charge that caused the disruption is gone. It is really an amazing tool.

The best thing about EFT, is that you can use it on everything from being stuck in traffic, to worrying about whatever you’re worrying about. It can relax and revive. It can connect you to your core. But the most powerful use is to remove those assorted emotional states that we carry around with us throughout our life. These emotional states that we stuff, and stuff, continue to effect us even if we ignore them. They don’t go away. They can cause disruptions on a physical level. Mind/Body is not just a turn of phrase. There really is a connection. Our mind affects our body, which in turn effects our body’s condition.
